It was a dance off!

Cheer New Yorkers Lamont J. (left) and Will A. (right) took home first and second respectively at a dance competition at the Ritz on Wednesday, May 28. They were each given one (hot) minute to show their stuff to a song by Kylie Minogue. They each received a free ticket to her NYC concert for their talents.

Hostess Miss Chaka Convict rallied the crowd behind both contestants, and lovingly dubbed Will "Chuey"... Chelsea Handler's sidekick on the Chelsea Lately show. The crowd chanted "Go Chuey" as Will impressed the club goers with his hip hop dancing and toe touches!

Lamont, a veteran from "So You Think You Can Dance" stole the show with his unique style and floor work that left the audience chanting for more! —Mike V.

Cheerleaders without Borders!

The Pride Cheerleading Association (PCA) was well in attendance at this year's Long Beach Pride with host team Cheer LA and representatives from Cheer SF, San Diego Cheer Elite, and Cheer NY. Together, PCA was not only able to deliver an amazing and crowd-pleasing cheer performance but, more importantly, PCA was able to raise $1,080.00 for the C.A.R.E. Program in Long Beach! Congratulations Cheer LA (and the rest of PCA), we are so proud and privileged to be part of such a fantastic family!!!

If you're interested in finding out if there's a PCA team near you, there is a Yahoo group, or go to Cheer New York's links page.

Bachelorette Base Gets Hitched (and not in a Mount!)

In (presumably) the last of the 2009 Cheer New York wedding series, member Tiffany G. will be wed with college sweetheart Danny C. on Friday, May 22. A strong and talented base, the only throwing she'll have to do on that day is a bouquet (although you better believe it'll be flawless technique!).

In addition to her skillful stunting, Tiff also submitted the nomination for one of our current Cheer for Life recipients, the Joey DiPaolo AIDS Foundation, as she was a camp counselor there for two consecutive summers.

Congratulations, Tiff G. and Danny C!—Rick H.

Pandemic sweeps CNY!

No, it's not swine flu! Seems the talented and charming ladies of Cheer New York are increasingly falling prey to the charms of NYC's most eligible bachelors!

Today, long time CNY veteran Jen L. ties the knot with fiancé Ron (let's hope her technique has improved since last fall, see above).

We've missed Jen gracing the tops of our favorite pyramids, as she's been wrapped up in planning today's festivities. But the effort and the sacrifice will be worth it as no one can bring a spirited good time to an event like Jen, as we've seen time and again.

Always a consummate team player, Jen has been a patience and committed mentor to our new recruits. If she's half as good training her new hubby, they're in for a fantastic, life-long love affair. Congratulations, Jen and Ron!!!

Ramblers Ra-Rahs vs. CNY Cheers: A Soccer Rumble at the Piers

The soccer gays were ready for us this year. They bedazzled their shirts; they wore headbands; and shook their own pompoms, as we regaled them with our Spring 2009 cheerdance routine at our second annual visit to the Indoor Classic Soccer Tournament, held at Chelsea Piers on Saturday, March 28th.

As the performing guests, we cheered loud and proud for the New York Ramblers, the host of the international sports gathering, and for the multitude of teams, with many athletes coming from San Francisco, Atlanta, and as far away as Italy. We fed off their enthusiastic energy as they remembered us from last year, with hoots and hollers permeating our choreographed routine, nicely put together by Captain Mike V. The teams loved it. But don't take our word for it, watch the video! We were pumped. And they were pumped, scoring plenty of goals afterward.

They remembered last year's fierce-and-flawless inaugural performance. They were such fans that some even asked afterward about their favorite team members (i.e., Dan V.). We told them some couldn't make it this time. Maybe 2010 tournament?

I have a feeling they'll even more ready for us next year. Hmm, maybe they'll do toe-touches! (I can see a battle going down. Can't wait!)—Raymund F.
